Piercing Rejection/The Signs/And What To Do.
I often get asked the question, Is my piercing rejecting?
There are a few signs to look out for, but the most common sign is when the distance between the entry and exit holes begins to shrink. Another common sign is when your piercing is feeling sore and itchy and you can start to see the jewellery just under the skin. There is no fix time frame in which these signs may occur. After the first year of having a piercing the chance of rejection is significantly reduced as your body has adjusted.
Piercing introduces a foreign object into your body so it is our body natural response to try and get rid of it. Low quality jewellery will dramatically increase the chance of your body rejecting a piercing. Also Incorrect size or style of jewellery for your initial piercing can also be a problem, incorrect aftercare, and if the initial piercing is too wide, deep, or shallow.
A few common piercings that reject are
*Navel
*Eyebrow
*Anti Tragus
*Nipple
*Dermals
When a piercing is rejecting YES it can get infected AND YES it can get nasty. I have seen my fair share of badly rejected piercings, so dont leave it to the last minute.
So what to do if you think this is happening to you!!?
- See your Piercer for advice ASAP
- Don’t let the jewellery reject completely as this will increase the scarring and lessen the chance of it being able to get it re pierced.
- Nothing you put on it/do to it will stop the process on its own.
- If it is older the 1 year, think about any changes in your life such as stress, and illness or lifestyle that may have started the process.
- Even if a piercing rejects, there are still times where it can be redone with a successful outcome. Just make sure all the correct steps are followed.
